Aaliyah Archives: News

So happy for Missy Elliott! :o) I just realised that I have not posted this on my main blog, so for those who are not aware, Missy posted this on Christmas Day :o) What an amazing gift to find after so many years. So glad she found this iconic jacket.

Aaliyah: Rare Photo Courtesy of Missy Elliott

Happy Holidays everyone! It's been a minute since I have last posted on here, but here's a special gift from Missy Elliott who shared this rare picture of our beautiful Babygirl, who happened to be on their way to the studio :o) If you look below, here is what she said...

Lol! Shame about the thumb right? I love how Missy just keeps it real! Anyhoo, enjoy everyone! :D

Huge thank you to one of my readers who brought this to my attention! Can’t believe I missed this! Aaliyah pictured with Alan Barcoff at a private event, which was shared via his FB and Twitter awhile ago on the 15th Nov. And we all know what went down that day! lol! Thank you sooo much for sharing! :o) :D Below, is a screenshot of a caption he wrote via Twitter :o)

This pic was taken when we did the song “never giving up” on the “one in a million”
Lp …. great times”
| Thanks for sharing! :o) Rashad is looking hot like fire in this pic! ;) :D The picture must of been taken around 1995 – 1996 based on when Aaliyah's One In A Million album was being recorded. Never Givin' Up has always been one of those songs that never fails to give me goosebumps with every listen. Such an underrated song in my books.

They Call Me Timbaland: Narrated By Playa (Official Mixtape)

So since Christmas is fast approaching, and I am a generous, giving person, I would like to share with you all an official mixtape released by Timbaland which is narrated by Playa crew members Smoke E. Digglera and Digital Black. This is my way of just saying a huge thank you to all my loyal readers, fans, followers, etc... who have been down for me from day one. I appreciate you all, so thank you for your support :o) (If you would like to have this mixtape please email me via and I shall personally email it to you.)

I highly recommend this mixtape to anyone just to listen to the narration by Smokey and Black, since they share a lot of their memories in the studio, how they came about meeting Timbo and even the making of 'Are You That Somebody', which of course has some Static and Aaliyah memories! With 49 classic joints mixed by Dj Supa and other respected DJ's in the game, you can't really go wrong! ;) Thank you for sharing these personal, fond memories, since it means everything to all of us Aaliyah/Playa fans :o)

Having just finished listening to this mixtape, all I can say is that this really makes me miss the sound of the 90's. Timbo's innovation in music back then was so ahead of it's time, it amazes me how all of those classic joints still have no expiration date! The fact that Timbo and Ginuwine have announced of them finally coming together to work on a new project, truly gives me hope for Timbo to bring some of that old skool flavor we all know and love from the man. It's about time these two finally united right? So make sure you keep tabs on them, because I have a feeling Timbo is gonna bring back some of that magic back in the game, so watch out!

I have said this before, but I will say this again. I really think musically, Timbaland's music got effected by the tragic loss of our beloved Babygirl, and since than, he has never been quite the same. However, recently I have heard a lot of new beats from Timbaland through a new artist call Tink (who y'all should check out since she can sing and rap!), and I feel a part of him has finally woken up and realised what is missing from the music industry. With that being said, I am positive that we shall be hearing some greatness from Timbo in the new year to come. :o) ;)

Aaliyah: Official Unreleased Tracks From Eric Seats

Edit made by yours truly! ;)

So I've been meaning to post this for awhile now, but as you all know Aaliyah left us with an amazing body of work throughout her musical career. Like every other artist, Aaliyah recorded a lot of tracks, some of which were not complete in time for her to sing, and others which were only rough drafts or 'demos' as we call them. Now if you all remember, I posted something awhile back in regards to some unreleased tracks that Static Major's personal assistant (and close friend) Tim Barnett kindly shared with us in 2010. Just to refresh your memories, you can read it again via the link here

We've already had the tracks CEO and Danc'n come to surface, and seeing as how we have a special Birthday tribute next year in the works from the original red album producers, maybe it's long over due for us fans to finally hear these rare gems. I for one, would most definitely love to hear them! :o)

So a couple months back I actually came across some posts via Eric Seats who happened to share some screenshots from his phone's playlist, and to my surprise, I was delighted to see some of those Aaliyah tracks that we have always heard about, but never actually heard! Lol! Here are the main ones he shared, along with his captions :o) ...

Eric Seats: #Memories Another #unreleased #Aaliyah #HIT #StaticMajorIsGenius #DontLetMeFoolYou #KeyBeats #ES333

Eric Seats: #Memories #Aaliyah OMG ANOTHER #unreleased #HIT! @DigitalBlack wrote this one.. #KeepsMeShaking #KeyBeats #ES333

Eric Seats: This One Too... #Aaliyah #unreleased #Dancin #Playa @DigitalBlack #KeyBeats #ES333

Do any of these titles ring any bells? They should do! If not, lets do a brief summary of each track :o) The first track, is the one which Drake sampled vocals from. The second track is the one where they actually mixed it for the song Quit Hatin'. And the third track, yes you are probably saying "hey we have already heard this version!" but NOT with just Aaliyah and Digital Black on their own, without E.T. Selfish. Seats said this was a rough version, so it would be interesting to hear and compare to the one that we already know and love. Who knows, maybe one day we may finally get to hear ALL of them, once the family agree to it. :o)

Aaliyah & Rashad: Rare Photo

Courtesy to AaliyahAlways for coming across this rare gem via Rashad's Twitter! This is such a beautiful picture of both of them! I also noticed that it bares resemblance to another one I showed you guys awhile back, and thanks to my great visual memory I was correct! ;) This picture was taken in 1996 at @iamchachiiii Homecoming with Aaliyah. If you look carefully, her outfit is exactly the same in both pictures (You can check this out below). Her date also confirmed that this was taken at his parents house, and that the picture on the wall (above) is of his sister. Aaliyah's date was also on the other side of her but cropped out of the picture with Rashad.

It's always nice to know these little facts behind each picture, so thank you for sharing that information with us all :o)

BJ The Chicago Kid - One In A Million (Tribute To Aaliyah, R.Kelly & Jodeci)

So, I am all for tributes being done with respect and dignity when it comes to Aaliyah, and I happened to come across this tribute, thanks to one of my followers @chiineey who kindly shared this with me ;) I was blown away at not only at the fact that he was covering Aaliyah's One In A Million but also covering R.Kelly's- R&B Thug and Jodeci's- Feenin' under this classic Timbaland beat! Wow! All I can say is that is the best tribute I have heard in a LONG time! Thank you for honoring our Queen in the best way that she rightly deserves.

For all those who are always on the search for new music, look no further and check out this guy BJ The Chicago Kid via his main site... where you can download his album for FREE! Yes you read that correctly! :o) Just to give you a little taste of what he's all about, peep the video below and enjoy his rendition of all three of these 90's nostalgia, classic joints! :o)

Courtesy to Came To Give Love for sharing this article, which was found in a Polish magazine last year! Any of my Polish readers who can translate the text written here, please comment below, since I would love to know what it says. :o) Who can spot Babygirl in this concrete, neon glow, jungle? ;)

Repost from @sonyasspotlight: “With everyone talking about the #Lifetime #AaliyahMovie, I just thought I’d share a photo I took with the talented and beautiful Aaliyah back in the 90s. I loved her music (still have all of it on CDs). Aaliyah had a sweet spirit to go along with her angelic singing voice and blossoming acting career. But nobody should bash the acting of #AlexandraShipp who played Aaliyah in the Lifetime TV biopic. She’s a talented actress (it’s not easy out there for Black actresses y’all), and I thought she did well in both the #AaliyahMovie & in #Drumline. Everyone who knew Aaliyah or who was a fan of hers is protective of her legacy, but let’s all #StayPositive. R.I.P” #Aaliyah”

Repost from @mstammimac: “Just thought I’d say something nice. All this dogging about the movie. So sad:( …… Traveled with her a few times on the road. Special thanks to Maximum Aaliyah for the footage and LewSpally87 for making this video! This is too dope beyond words! I hope one day we can get to see these scenes in HD! Enjoy! :D :o)

Aaliyah Archives: Da Bassment Interview Part 2

So y'all know I had to do a special blog post for the late, great Static Major. On the 11th of this month marked his 40th Birthday. So as a special tribute, we shall be giving you part 2 of Da Bassment interview courtesy of Trevor Banks who happened to kindly share this. It was also Devante's idea to keep us feenin' for more! ;) So if you missed the first part of the interview you can check it out here. Happy reading everyone! :o)

DA BASSMENT PT.2 Interview...

1. When was the first time you tasted success?

Static Major: Man Ummm.. When I first tasted success was after me being in the game for 6 or 7 years. At that point it started feeling like a job.

2. Now are you going to try and get into a competition with R. Kelly?

Static Major: Yeah .. definitely. I feel like he really is my only competition. I'm not taking anything away from the newbies coming up, but they aren't as seasoned as i am. Most artists call me up to write or do the song for them. Myself, I'm self contained, and it don't really matter who does a track for me whether its Timbaland, Scott Storch,Jim Jonsin ,or a no name producer. At the end of the day it boils down to just doing the track.

3. What happened with Blackground as far as Playa's second album is concerned?

Smoke E Digglera: We never did sign with Blackground. Blackground was our management. We were signed to Def Jam on our first album. We ended up getting off of Def Jam, and from there we started working on the new album with the aspirations of getting signed to another label. We felt like it wouldn't be a huge problem getting signed again. Blackground probably would of signed us as a group, but we never got around to that. I mean , we did work on an album, but Playa ended up going on the road with the Ladies Night Out Tour. After that, everyone started working on their solo albums.

4. Why was there a fallout with Da Bassment. Was it because DeVante was trying to be an artist, producer, songwriter and a CEO at the same time?

Bazaar Royale (Da Boogieman) : I really don't know, I was too young to know what was happening. To me, everything was moving along just fine as far as I could see. Didn't really know the business aspect of it. But I did have fun.

5. Did you record any joints back then?

Bazaar Royale ( Da Boogieman): Yeah, I had a few joints out back then. We recorded all the time. Da Bassment was our job, and we were like on some Motown shit, for real.

6. I heard if DeVante was to walk in the building you had to have something hot cookin?

Digital Black (of Playa): Most definitely...There was always something dope going on, cuz everybody was talented. You might go in one room, Stevie J would be cookin something. Go in another room, Timbaland, Sugah, Magoo ect.. would be cookin something. Come in our room, Playa would be cookin something, Everybody was getting on each other's tracks. Missy & Timbaland were way ahead of their time. It was a great situation to be in for all of us...

Aaliyah Archives: News (EXCLUSIVE)

So as you guys know, I recently shared with you all some video snippets from producer Eric Seats who worked with the red album crew. He was kind enough to share his original working files from Aaliyah's Rock The Boat and It's Whatever, plus and added bonus of a never before heard official remix of Rock The Boat, which was created back in 2001! Wow! All I can say is that this sounds really current! Hardly surprising considering how Aaliyah's last album still sounds fresh to this day. All the producers on this album really knew what they were doing, and it shows since they have created longevity within their body of work.

Now we all know that this year has been a tough one for all TRUE Aaliyah fans out there, with everything that has been going on with this 'film drama'. I refuse to even acknowledge this ignorance on my blog anymore, since I just wanna keep it drama and negative free. I began this journey of blogging through positivity and it shall remain that way! :o)

With every bad moment, some good always tends to prevail over, and I am so excited to announce that all the producers from Aaliyah's self titled red album, will be uniting to make a special tribute on her 36th Birthday next year! How dope is that right? :D I have already shared with you a couple remixes which have come to surface already, so my guesses are that a remix album might be in the works. Ok, so I am not one for blowing my own trumpet, as I am humble as they can get, but I remember ages ago speaking to Eric Seats and mentioned the idea of a remix album and how all the producers from that album should come together. Here is the conversation we had which you can view below...

As you can see Eric agreed :o) I was also being a little cheeky towards the end! Lol! Can't blame a girl for trying though! ;) To hear Aaliyah's accapella on her red album would be amazing though! :D With that being said, I am glad the man has stuck by his word, because now, he's putting everything into action! Woooo! :D Seats also mentioned that he is planning to put the Rock The Boat (remix) version on his Sidooo Vol 2 album. So be sure to peep that out in the near future. If you still need more convincing, here's another conversation with the likes of J-Dub, Bud'da and Smoke E. Digglera talking about this special Birthday tribute :o)

And here's another one where Eric Seats himself, confirms this with one of my favorite Aaliyah fan pages Maximum Aaliyah ;) 2015 definitely plans on being a good year for all Aaliyah fans! Are you ready? #TeamAaliyah ;) :D

Aaliyah: The INFLUENTI/\L

So I found a couple of surprises that came with my crewneck! I had no idea until I checked the rest of my parcel! Lol! But me being the creative person that I am, I have a lot of random postcard collages, and thought this would look great next to my Aaliyah poster. Its weird because it's as if they were all meant to be together. One of them says..."The city lights glowed in the distance" very appropriate right? ;) But anyhoo...if you're not familiar, please check out @theinfluential for original, innovative designs by the lovely @aaliyahalways :o)

Eric Seats Leaks Remix Snippet Of Aaliyah's: 'Rock The Boat'

Yes you read that right! Eric Seats who you all know produced on Aaliyah's self titled red album, known for producing the ultimate, sultry Rock The Boat has given us a teaser of a never before heard remix version :o) I was literally screaming with joy when I saw this! Lol! So many remixes have come to surface lately, I simply cannot wait until we get to hear these in full, because all these producers who worked with Aaliyah are just teasing us now! Come on now guys! Really? lol! Anyhoo, peep the video below and jam away! The beat sounds sooooo dope! :D :D :D
