Aaliyah Dana Haughton: 14 Year Anniversary (1979 – 2001)

“No days go by….that I’m not thinking of you…." There is so much that I can say, but I find it easier to express through drawing, since a picture tells a thousand words. Today I will not cry. I will celebrate the 22 years of your life, that you dedicated to us all. Rest easy my Queen… 

I will also share the rare images which have surfaced today, since I know y'all love those! ;) At the moment, it's so hard to keep up with all of them, so I promise to post as many as I can today! Normally I would feel sad, but today I feel all the positive love and energy from everyone. It truly is amazing... :o)

Happy 36th Birthday To Aaliyah Dana Haughton!

"A Special Message from the Haughton Family. Very early in the morning on January 16, 1979 Michael and I brought Aaliyah Dana with the blessing of God into the world. It took 15 minutes for her to make her presence known. Michael said "I have a beautiful baby girl". Thus the sweet name that followed her through life. We took her home soon after and she met the brother that would love her and that she would love for the next 22 years.Waiting, Mom, Dad, Ra" 

Happy 36th Birthday Aaliyah. I wanted to draw something unique and meaningful for this special day. Aaliyah was always very fond of Egypt culturally and historically. She showed this fondness within what she wore and did musically, mixing eastern with R&B and western flavor. Today we celebrate her life. The Ankh symbol (which Aaliyah had as a tattoo) symbolises ETERNAL LIFE. And I wanted to show this love and beauty by writing her name in Egyptian Hieroglyphics. She truly lived up to her name, and I bless her family for sharing such a warm hearted, beautiful spirit. She lives on eternally within all our hearts.

Identical to none. The highest most Exalted one, the best. A huge thanks to @loca4tlc for sharing this image, which is located in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Such a beautiful way to pay homage and respect. :o)

The Aaliyah Archives: Remembering Tupac (1971 – 1996)

Can't believe it's been 18 years today since Tupac passed away. There hasn't been another rapper like him. His words, flow, story telling and topics have always hit home for me, everytime I listen to his music. A true, down to earth and positive role model within the Hip-Hop community. Like many legends and icons, he was one of those people who wanted to make a difference and change in the world. He touched upon real, social and political topics, not being afraid of what other people thought. Lyrically, I have not come across anyone who has even come close. He had so many great ideas of bringing communities together. I know that if he was still around it would of worked out, since his influence on people alone, was enough to make everyone listen and learn. R.I.P ♥

So for those who have not yet seen my surprise, here's a drawing I did based on Jonathan Mannion's photo, which he released to the everyone a few days ago. Reminds me of something she would of probably had in a concert during her red album era. Would of been so dope to of seen something like that! Anyhoo, I hope you guys like it! :o)

So I have been meaning to get back into my drawing again, since it's been awhile that I've let my creative juices flow freely, but I'm really happy with how this piece has turned out. Now, as much as I am known for sharing music by someone who was so talented and special in her own right, I am also one for sharing talent of those who rightly deserve the recognition. Some of you may know him as Hayden Williams, who is a well known UK Fashion Illustrator and Designer. I have admired his work for a long time now and what's even better is that he too is also a big fan of Aaliyah, which makes me like him even more! (No bias of course! :o) lol) All I can say is wow!
